The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
