Iranian Forces State Attack on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is uncertain and the United States has remained silent.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have shot down missiles in their airspace.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
