Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's earnestness struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who found the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
